The Bristol Wagon and Carriage Works Co Ltd was formed in 1866 to take over an existing business of agricultural implement and machine makers, wheelwrights and ironfounders and to manufacture rolling stock of every description. The company was acquired by the Leeds Forge Co in 1920 and the business, with the exception of the motor and agricultural portions which were separately disposed of, was transferred to Leeds in 1924 and the company was wound up.
The Nottingham works were very actively engaged in the production of rolling stock from 1919 to 1931 when, owing to the trade depression then prevailing the business was tranferred to Saltley and the works were sold.
